Israeli President Shimon Peres will be in Italy this week on his first state visit since he is elected as Israel's new president in July, according to Italian media.

The Israeli embassy in Rome said Peres will arrive on Wednesday and will first meet with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano at the Quirinal Palace, where he will have a working luncheon.

Later in the day Peres will meet with Premier Romano Prodi for a working dinner.

Wednesday will also see the Israeli president meet with members of Rome's Jewish community at the city's main temple.

The following day Peres is set to meet with Foreign Minister and Deputy Premier Massimo D'Alema, Culture Minister and Deputy Premier Francesco Rutelli.

He will then have a working luncheon with Rome mayor Walter Veltroni, Italian News Agency ANSA reported.
