The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on Tuesday called on all regional players involved in the chronic Israeli-Palestinian conflict to participate in a U. S.-sponsored Mideast peace conference to secure its success.
Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters in Ramallah that "It needs to be well-prepared to come up with results leading to implementation of the Road Map and the deals signed with the Israeli side."
"The Palestinians work to make the meeting successful by adopting a document prepared in advance that includes timetables for an Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territories," Erekat added.
The conference was called by U.S. President George W. Bush on July 16 in a bid to discuss how to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks stalled since 2000 when the Palestinian uprising broke out. It was reported to be scheduled for November in Washington.
Erekat rejected allegations that the conference may fail, saying such anticipations were "too early."
He also disclosed that aides of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert were in contacts to arrange a new meeting between them.
The time of the meeting has not yet been set. The two leaders last met in Jerusalem on Aug. 28 for the second face-to-face talks in a month.
But on Monday, Olmert ruled out the possibility of reaching any agreement with Abbas before the autumn peace conference.
