Pakistan, UK to strengthen defense ties |

Pakistan and United Kingdom on Tuesday expressed their desire to further deepen and expand bilateral ties in divergent fields especially in the area of defense, according to a report by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
The visiting First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff of Royal Navy, Admiral Sir Jonathon Band called on the Minister for Defense of Pakistan Rao Sikandar Iqbal here on Tuesday. They discussed matters of mutual interests and stressed the need for closer cooperation between the Navies of the two countries.
Rao Sikandar Iqbal said that Pakistan had deployed about 100, 000 troops on its border with Afghanistan to combat and eliminate terrorist and extremist elements. Jonathon Band appreciated the key role played by Pakistan in the war on terror. He also thanked the Pakistani government for providing logistic support to the International Security Assistance and North Atlantic Treaty Organization Forces currently engaged in the anti-terrorism campaign in Afghanistan.
The meeting was also attended by the British High Commissioner to Pakistan and other senior defense officials of Pakistan.
