Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday held talks with visiting King Abdullah II of Jordan on Mideast peace at Ras el-Tin Palace in the northern Egyptian port city of Alexandria, the official MENA news agency reported.
According to MENA, the two leaders discussed the Palestinian issue and efforts exerted by concerned parties in a bid to resolve the problem properly.
They also talked about a U.S.-proposed international peace conference on Mideast, which was reportedly to be held in November in Washington.
The Egyptian-Jordanian summit meeting was also attended by the prime ministers and foreign ministers of the two countries.
The summit talks between Mubarak and King Abdullah II was marked by complete understanding over all discussed issues, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit told a joint news conference with his Jordanian counterpart Abdul Ilah Khatib following the talks.
Abul Gheit said the two leaders expressed their hope that the U. S.-initiated Mideast conference would result in progress on the stalled peace process of the region.
Earlier in the day, Mubarak also met with Tony Blair, the envoy of the international Quartet on Mideast, and Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'alema respectively on the latest developments of the Palestinian issue and the prospective meeting on Mideast peace.
Egypt is ready to help any international efforts to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people and push forward the Palestinian cause, MENA quoted Mubarak as saying during his talks with Blair.
