Turkish security forces have confiscated 947 kg of hashish and 86.5 kg of heroin which belong to the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in eastern Turkey, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Wednesday.
During an operation in Ekecek village of Baskale town of Van province on Monday, the security forces seized 947 kg of hashish which was prepared to finance the PKK, said the report.
It added that Turkish police also seized 86.5 kg heroin in two operations in Hacibekir district of Van province and Van-Hakkari highway on Tuesday.
Police detained two terrorists related to the smuggling, said the report, adding that the hunting for a fugitive of the case in ongoing.
Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in western Europe.
General Yasar Buyukant, Chief of the General Staff, revealed that Turkish security forces had seized a total of 112 tons of drugs, including 35 tons of heroin, 62 tons of hashish and 15 tons of morphine in operations staged in the last five years.
