At least five Palestinians were wounded on Wednesday in clashes between supporters of President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement and members of Hamas executive security force in southern Gaza town of Rafah, medics said.
Witnesses said that the clashes erupted when an Islamic Hamas executive security force went to detain Salah al-Aweisi, a local Fatah member in the town, adding that dozens of Fatah supporters tried to stop them.
Members of Hamas force beat up Fatah supporters by clubs after they quarreled with each other, witnesses said, adding that five were injured and al-Aweisi was arrested.
Hamas movement, which is listed by Europe and the United States as "a terrorist organization", took control of the Gaza Strip in mid June after its militants defeated Abbas security forces and Fatah militants.
Meanwhile, Fatah movement's armed wing al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, rejected a decision by the deposed Hamas government to bar Fatah Friday prayers in public squares.
The group said in a leaflet that Fatah supporters, members and leaders would challenge the decision of Hamas movement and would go for prayers in public squares on Friday.
Clashes erupted last Friday between thousands of Fatah supporters and Hamas executive security forces in Gaza, where at least 20 were wounded and dozens detained.
Hamas accused the worshippers of violating the law, carrying out riots and disturbances and storming public properties, and decided to prevent it from coming on Fridays.
