Afghan police and the U.S.-led coalition forces killed over two dozen Taliban militants in Helmand province of southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, a coalition statement said.
The combined forces were conducting a combat patrol near Anjir Shali village, 17 km northwest of Sangin district center, when they were ambushed by militants, the statement said.
The policemen and coalition soldiers fought back and called in coalition air support, which "conducted strikes on the positively identified enemy positions using precision guided munitions," it said.
"More than two dozen Taliban insurgents were killed in the fighting," according to the statement, which also said no policemen and coalition soldiers were injured.
Due to rising Taliban violence, over 4,300 persons, most of whom were Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
