The Second Congress of Childhood Cancer and Blood Diseases kicks off in Jordan on Thursday.
More than 200 physicians and counsellors specialized in paediatric oncology convened in Amman to discuss means of diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancers.
The three-day conference, organized by the Jordan's Hussein Cancer Center in cooperation with the Jordan Society of Paediatric Oncology, Jude Children's Research Hospital and the International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research, will seek to familiarize participants with up-to-date techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood oncology and to encourage data exchange among regional and international physicians.
According to Faris Madanat, head of paediatrics department of the Jordan's Hussein Cancer Centre, a medical nursing session and two specialized symposiums will be held on the sidelines of the congress.
Globally, more than 160,000 cases of childhood cancer are diagnosed a year, and an estimated 90,000 die.
