An Iraqi civilian was killed and three others wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in southern Baghdad on Thursday, an Interior Ministry source said.
"A roadside bomb went off in Baghdad's southern neighborhood of the al-Za'faraniyah, killing a civilian and wounding three others, " the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The blast also damaged several civilian cars, the source said, adding that all the wounded were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Earlier in the day, the Iraqi police said that U.S. armored vehicles and jet fighters struck the al-Washash neighborhood in western Baghdad at about 3:00 a.m. (2300 GMT Wednesday), destroying several houses, killing 14 people and wounding nine others.
Women and children were among the casualties, the source said.
The U.S. military had no immediate comment on the incident.
The attacked neighborhood is a stronghold for Mahdi Army militia loyal to radical Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, who declared on Aug. 29 that he ordered his militiamen to freeze their armed activities for six months.
