A car bomb went off on Thursday near a fuel station in the city of Tikrit, capital of Salahudin province, killing at least two people and wounding four others, a provincial police source said.
"A booby-trapped car parking near a fuel station in central the city of Tikrit, 170 km north of Baghdad, detonated shortly after midday, killing at least two civilians and wounding four others," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The attack apparently targeted a passing police patrol, which escaped the explosion unhurt, the source said.
Salahudin province is a Sunni insurgents' stronghold and is part of what so-called "Sunni triangle" in north and west of Baghdad. It has long been the hot bed of insurgency against the U. S. occupation forces since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
