Thailand's Office of the Attorney General on Thursday set up a special team to work on extradition of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Potjaman to face criminal charges against them.
Deputy Attorney General Chulasingha Wasantasingha is appointed to chair the team to bring back the couple who face charges concerning a land deal in Bangkok.
Chulasingha will chair a team comprising of eight to nine members. They will meet next week to study laws to extradite the couple back to face court cases in Thailand, local newspaper the Bangkok Post said on its website.
The pair face arrest warrants issued by the Supreme Court after they failed to appear for the first hearing in the 772-million- baht(22.7 million U.S. dollars) land purchase case.
Thaksin was charged by the Assets Examination Committee with abusing his position as prime minister to influence the land deal, which his wife was able to close for a sum apparently below market value.
