Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe got on his way Friday morning for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum's summit meeting in Sydney, Australia, over the weekend.
According the Japanese foreign ministry, Abe will separately hold talks with U.S. President George W. Bush, Australian Prime Minister John Howard and other leaders on the sidelines of the meeting.
Before leaving his official residence for the airport, Abe said he plan to discuss joint measures against climate change with other leaders and will strive for more support for Japan's "Cool Earth 50" proposal which calls for halving global carbon dioxide emissions by 2050, according to Kyodo News.
The premier also intends to raise the issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's past abductions of Japanese nationals during the trip, local media said.
