The Indonesian Supreme Court has turned down a request by the trio of Bali bombers for a judicial review into their case, meaning that it upholds their death sentence, a judge said Friday.
"The decision has been made, and the verdict is to turn down ( the judicial review)," Supreme Court judge Djoko Sarwoko was quoted by leading news website Detikcom as saying.
Djoko is a member of the Supreme Court's judge panel that handles the appeal of the trio -- Amrozi (43), his brother Ali Ghufron (48) and Imam Samudera (38) -- who have been convicted of plotting and carrying out the bombings at two nightclubs on Bali island that killed 202 people in October 2002.
They have asked the Supreme Court to review the death sentence on grounds that the verdict is based on the anti-terror law which was legislated immediately after the attacks.
Their lawyers have said the law should not apply retroactively.
"This argument cannot overrule the verdicts by the district court and the appeal court," Djoko said, adding that the Supreme Court's decision was made on August 30.
