U.S. President George W. Bush and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Friday in Sydney discussed U.S. proposals to set up an anti-missile defense shield in Europe.

The two leaders are in Sydney for series of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings which will culminate in the leaders meeting on Saturday and Sunday.

The two leaders held face-to-face talks on the sidelines of the APEC meeting. But neither of them gave details about their talks on the proposed missile system in Europe.

They also discussed Iran's nuclear program, Russia's bid to join the World Trade Organization, as well as environmental issues, which will be the focus of the APEC leaders meeting.
