At least 12 people, including a woman, were injured in a car bomb blast in northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar on Saturday, the police said.

The blast at a car parking in the city's cantonment area also damaged several vehicles in the busiest area, City Police Chief of Peshawar Abdul Majeed Khan said.

Window glasses of several nearby buildings were smashed, reports quoting witnesses said.

The car, parked outside a bank, caught fire as the device exploded with a huge explosion, which was heard in many parts of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province.

Fire fighters were called out to extinguish the fire.

There was no immediate responsibility claim from any group and it was not clear as who parked the car in the area.

The police cordoned off the area and a bomb disposal squad began examining the car.
