Seventeen people were arrested and two police personnel were injured in a protest launched on Saturday when the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) kicked off its two-day Leaders Meeting.
The Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported that the protesters were arrested for assaulting police personnel and will possibly face charges.
The AAP quoted police sources as saying that two officers suffered head wounds during the protest, which attracted some 5, 000 demonstrators.
The majority of the protesters conducted the protest peacefully, the sources were cited.
The protesters, during their demonstration in the city center, chanted slogans and lifted banners themed against The United States President George W. Bush or APEC.
Some of the chants blasted the police handling of the APEC security measures for violating "the democracy and the human rights."
The APEC Leaders Meeting, grouping leaders from 21 economies, will conclude on Sunday.
