Egypt has deplored two recent terror attacks in Algeria over the past few days, which left at least 49 people killed and more than 150 injured, the Egyptian foreign ministry said on Saturday.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit asserted Egypt's support and solidarity with Algeria in a message to Algerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mourad Medelci, according to a ministry statement.

The statement quoted the foreign minister's official spokesman as saying that Abul Gheit expressed confidence that the wise Algerian political leadership will curb terrorism and noted that Egypt has repeatedly called for collective international efforts to combat terror.

Algerian state news agency APS reported on Saturday that 30 people were killed and 47 others wounded in a car bomb attack in Boumerdes province's Dellys locality in eastern Algeria, the second of its kind in three days.

On Thursday, at least 19 people were killed and 107 others wounded in a suicide bombing attack in Batna, some 450 km east of Algiers, which apparently targeted Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika who had planned to visit the region.

Also on Saturday, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak sent a cable to his Algerian counterpart to express condolences to the victims of Thursday's bombing in Batna.

Although security has greatly improved in Algeria in recent years, sporadic attacks continue to be reported in isolated parts of the northwestern African country.
