A former police chief of the north Indian state of Punjab was Sunday arrested under anti-corruption laws, a news report said.
S.S. Virk, the former director general of police (DGP) in Punjab, has also been charged with misusing his authority and carrying out private business in violation of public service rules.
He is accused of possessing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
Virk, a senior officer of the elite Indian Police Service (IPS), was removed as DGP shortly before the state elections in Punjab earlier this year.
Anti-corruption vigilance officers arrested him after months of investigations into charges of graft against him, the PTI reported.
