The flight carrying exiled former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif landed at the Islamabad International Airport on Monday morning, local TV channel Geo reported.
Screen pictures show that the airliner has arrived at the airport, but Sharif has not shown off.
Departing from Heathrow Airport in London on Sunday night, Sharif boarded the flight PK786 of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The police blocked main roads leading to the airport and no PML- N activists were present at the airport to receive Sharif, leader of PML-N.
The government on Sunday night arrested some opposition leaders who intended to meet Sharif.
Mohammad Ali Durrani, the Information Minister, said that the government had not made a decision on whether it would deport Sharif after his arrival.
PML-N general secretary Zafar Iqbal Jhagra said that around 2, 000 supporters of PML-N who were coming to Islamabad had been arrested across the country, mostly in Punjab province.
Some local media indicated that Sharif was also likely to be arrested because the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reopened three corruption cases against Sharif and his family members. An arrest warrant is likely to be issued after Sharif's return, according to reports.
Sharif, twice elected as Prime Minister of Pakistan, served two non-consecutive terms. He was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2000 on charges of hijacking and terrorism after General Pervez Musharraf staged a bloodless coup in the country. The Pakistani government agreed to commute his sentence from life in prison to exile in Saudi Arabia for 10 years.
