Former Palestinian Foreign Minister Ziad Abu Amr on Monday urged the Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas) to submit its thorough vision to President Mahmoud Abbas to end the widening political crisis.

"Hamas must demonstrate that it is interested to restore peace since questions about the intentions of Hamas have mounted after it took over the Gaza Strip," Abu Amr told Palestine Newspaper, a pro-Hamas daily.

President Abbas of Fatah has sacked a short-lived unity government, headed by Hamas, in June in response to Gaza takeover from his forces. He formed another government made up of non-Hamas members and ruled from West Bank.

Since then, Hamas has been calling on Abbas to resume the national dialogue but the President refuses, demanding Hamas to retreat its coup and give up control of Gaza.

Abu Amr, who was a member of the deposed government, denied recent reports that Hamas had presented its vision for talks to Abbas, adding that the Islamic movement leaders have individually made some statements on this regard.

The former independent minister expressed support to Abbas' demand about ending Gaza takeover, urging Hamas to retreat "since such a step will not be an enemy for Hamas."
