Two civilians were killed and six others injured in a car bomb attack in central Baghdad on Monday, an Interior Ministry source said.

"A car bomb parking near the al-Karkh al-Jumhori hospital in the al-Uteifiyah neighborhood detonated around midday, killing two civilians and wounding six others," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

An ambulance parking near the hospital and several civilian cars were damaged by the blast, the source said.

Iraqi security forces immediately cordoned off the area to secure the scene, while the killed and wounded people were evacuated to the hospital, he added.

Violence continues infesting Baghdad streets as sectarian killings, suicide attacks, bombings and abductions claim dozens of Iraqi lives daily.
