The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried said that there should not be a "reluctant" speeding up of the U.S.-Polish negotiations on the anti-missile shield, the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza reported Monday.
Fried was quoted as saying that the early election of Polish parliament may delay the conclusion of the negotiations.
Technical negotiations would continue before the parliamentary election and the establishment of a new government, but the formal talks on an anti-missile shield would probably be postponed to the next year, he noted.
"We have to wait until the a new government is formed in Poland." Fried said.
Last Friday, Poland's lower house of Parliament approved the self-dissolution motion presented by the Democratic Left Alliance. The parliamentary elections will be held on on October 21.
Last Thursday, Fried said at a news conference held in Krynica, southern Poland, that the U.S.-Polish talks on the proposed anti-missile shield can be completed by the end of the year.
