UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged on Monday Iran to fully comply with resolutions adopted by the Security Council that demand the Islamic republic to suspend its controversial nuclear enrichment activities.
"What is important at this time is that in addition to what IAEA has been negotiating and discussing with the Iranian government, the Iranian government should fully comply with the Security Council resolutions," Ban, who returned to New York Sunday night from his visit to Sudan, Chad and Libya, told reporters at the UN Headquarters.
"That is the core and the most important part in addressing this issue," Ban added.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) governing board opened on Monday a meeting to discuss a deal reached last month between Iran and the nuclear watchdog that would demand Iran to answer outstanding questions about its nuclear program.
The UN Security Council has imposed two sets of sanctions against Teheran since December for its failure to suspend its uranium enrichment program, which Western nations suspect is a cover for efforts to develop nuclear weapons.
