Egypt's People's Assembly Speaker Ahmed Sorour on Monday expressed confidence that President Hosni Mubarak will be re-elected as the leader of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) during the party's conference slated for November.

"As I know, there is unanimity from members of the party to re- elect President Mubarak president of the ruling party. Without the presence of Mubarak to the party, the party will not be the party, " Sorour told Xinhua.

He dismissed the rumors that Mubarak's health is "very bad," saying it did not reflect the reality.

"It came from people or sources who don't like stability in Egypt, the parliament will not discuss the question or the issue as they are rumors," said Sorour, noting that those rumors ended now as people know the reality.

"Spreading rumors commits a crime and prosecutors are investigating those who created the rumors to affect the stability in the country," he said.

Earlier, the Egyptian MENA news agency quoted NDP Assistant Secretary General Zakaria Azmi as saying that there was full consensus inside the party on the re-election of Mubarak as the NDP leader during the upcoming NDP general conference.

At the end of the conference, Mubarak will deliver a key speech on the important features of the coming stage in political, economic and social domains, according to Azmi.
