A car exploded into flames in central Moscow Monday evening, which injured at least two people.
The Toyota Camry burned and then exploded near the Actor Gallery on Pushkin Square, about 2 km away from the Red Square, at around 21:35 Moscow time (1735 GMT), news agencies reported.
Fire fighters and explosives experts were working on spot.
"The incident might have been caused by a technical defect or by an explosive device. But there is no obvious evidence supporting the latter yet," Itar-Tass quoted a police officer as saying.
"There is no question of terrorist act or gang war," interior department spokesman Yevgeny Gildeyev was quoted as saying.
