The chief of the Pakistani Election Commission said Tuesday that schedule for the presidential polls will be announced in a few days.
The term of President General Pervez Musharraf will expire on Nov. 15 and according to the constitution, the election to the office of President shall be held not earlier than 60 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of the term of the President in office.
"Schedule for the conduct of election to the office of the President will be announced within a few days," Chief Election Commissioner Qazi Muhammad Farooq said in a statement.
"Election to the office of the President of Pakistan shall be held in accordance with the provision of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and that all necessary arrangements are being made for the conduct of said elections," he said.
President Musharraf plans to contest election again but it is not clear if he will get himself re-elected in army uniform or not.
Some opposition parties have announced to quit assemblies if General Musharraf tried to re-elect himself in uniform.
Musharraf has been reportedly holding talks with exiled former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto about a power-sharing formula but the two sides have not yet finalized a deal.
