A bomb went off inside a vehicle in western Baghdad on Tuesday afternoon, killing a civilian and wounding five others, an Interior Ministry source said.

"A homemade bomb went off inside a vehicle near the Zawraa park in western Baghdad in the afternoon, killing a civilian and wounding five others," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In separate incident, several mortar rounds landed on a thoroughfare in Baghdad's southern neighborhood of Baiyaa, wounding seven people, the source said.

The barrage damaged several shops and civilian cars at the scene, he added.

Violence continues infesting Baghdad's streets despite the U.S. army's surge in the war-torn country in a bid to rein in the unbridled insurgency.
