The Popular Resistance Committees ( PRC), a militant group, announced Thursday a month-long rocket attacks against Israel that will last until the end of Muslim's holy month of Ramadan, which began in the day.

In a press statement, the PRC said its campaign, called "the Messages of Death," will include rocket attacks on the Israeli cities and the military bases alongside the Gaza Strip.

As part of the campaign, the PRC said it had targeted an Israeli army base in eastern Gaza with four mortar shells. The brigades also fired three home-made rockets into Sderot, Ashkelon and Zikim towns in southern Israel.

"The operation is a response to the Israeli crimes against our people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and to affirm the continuation of resistance," the statement said.

PRC's statement came amid intensified rocket attacks against Israel by Gaza-based Palestinian militants.

On Tuesday, a Palestinian homemade rocket slammed into an Israeli army training camp in southern Israel, wounding 69 Israeli conscripts.

Following the attack, some Israeli officials called for tough retaliation against militant groups' rocket attacks launched from the Gaza enclave.

The holy fasting month of Ramadan, during which observant Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, falls in the day in most Islamic nations and areas.
