Lebanese Hezbollah's private communications network in Beirut has been removed, local newspaper The Daily Star reported on Thursday.
"Telecommunications Minister Marwan Hamadeh informed the government that ... the cables which had been installed in Beirut were removed recently," Lebanese Information Minister Ghazi Aridi was quoted as saying after a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
"It is necessary to continue the action in the other regions" where the cables have also been installed by Hezbollah, Aridi said, referring to Hezbollah strongholds in south Beirut and southern Lebanon.
In late August, Hamadeh criticized Hezbollah for installing a private phone network, which started out in south Lebanon and ended up in Beirut and its suburbs, and branded the move a "state violation."
