A strong earthquake with magnitude of 6.4 rocked eastern part of Indonesia on Thursday, potential for tsunami, Meteorology and Geophysics Agency announced here.
The quake struck at 16:48 Jakarta time (0948GMT) with epicenter 291 kilometers northeast Bitung town of North Sulawesi province and at 30 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.
"The quake is potential for tsunami," said the official.
Indonesia is positioned on a vulnerable quake-hit zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire," where two continental plates meet that cause frequent seismic and volcanic movements.
