The Vietnamese government has instructed relevant agencies to focus on asking motorbike drivers to wear helmets, strictly deal with traffic law violators, and intensifying propagandizing on traffic safety, aiming to minimize serious accidents, Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.
Under an official message signed by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung on Friday, sectors and localities have been required to strengthen propagandizing its regulation on wearing helmets to all motorbike drivers, which will come into effect on Dec. 15, through mass media, posters and leaflets.
State employees, and members of the Communist Party of Vietnam will have to implement traffic safety regulations.
The government has also asked the Ministry of Public Security to intensify inspecting and dealing with traffic law violators, and universities and schools to closely manage their students in implementing traffic regulations.
In the first half of this year, Vietnam experienced 7,669 traffic accidents which killed 6,910 people and injured 5,919 others, respective year-on-year rises of 1.1 percent, 7.2 percent and 0.6 percent, according to the country's National Traffic Safety Committee.
