A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement denied on Saturday reports of talks with rival Hamas movement.
"There are no contacts, dialogues or even meetings between Fatah leaders and Hamas officials," spokesman Ahmad Abdel Rahman told reporters.
Fatah's central committee considered Hamas' takeover of the Gaza Strip in June a coup, Abdel Rahman said, adding the central committee's decision not to talk with Hamas unless it ends the coup was "binding decision for all Fatah members."
"Before any dialogue, the coup and its aftermaths must end and Hamas leaders must stop their daily aggressive acts in the Gaza Strip," he reiterated.
Abdel Rahman considered Hamas leaders' remarks about talks with some Fatah leaders "were aiming at falsely assuring the Gaza Strip residents that the impasse was on the way for solution."
