A mudslide triggered by torrential rains came down on a hill slope in Indian northeast state of Assam, burying three people alive, according to the Telegraph newspaper Sunday.
Hemanta Sharma, his wife Anjali Sharma and their 30-year-old son Anuraj were in their sleep when mounds of wet earth loosened by rains pounded on the asbestos roof of their home on the foothill near Noonmati district, the report said.
Their younger son, Tushar Raj, who was sleeping in an adjoining room, was pulled out from the rubble by neighbors as he screamed for help.
Assam's power and industry minister Pradyut Bordoloi and federal lawmaker Kirip Chaliha, visited the scene from Guwahati, the capital of Assam.
District authorities have ordered evacuation until seasonal rains were over.
Authorities have also deployed civil defense and home guard personnel for relief operations in submerged areas.
