Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon has laid emphasis on timely election to constituent assembly (CA) in Nepal that will allow the people to choose the manner in which they wish their country to be governed by giving a new constitution.
Speaking at a press conference organized in Nepali capital Kathmandu on Sunday before leaving for India upon completion of two-day visit to Nepal, Menon reiterated India's commitment to support and assist the transition to a democratic, inclusive, stable and prosperous Nepal.
Laying emphasis on free and fair CA election slated on Nov. 22 later this year, Menon said that he found the leaders of Nepal were unanimous when it comes to holding the elections on time.
On the Bhutanese refugee crisis, Menon clarified that India wanted Nepal and Bhutan to resolve the problem bilaterally.
He also informed that India was ready to discuss the problem of inundation of Nepali land during the monsoon. Indian water resources secretary would be visiting Nepal soon to hold further discussion on the matter, he said.
Menon, who arrived in Nepali capital Saturday on a two-day visit, met with various political leaders of Nepal including Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan, Speaker Subash Nembang and major political party leaders.
