Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday received a message from his Sudanese counterpart Omar al- Bashir on bilateral relations and the situation in Darfur, the official SANA news agency reported.

The message was conveyed by visiting Sudanese President's Special Envoy Mustafa Osman Ismael who briefed Assad on the outcome of his recent tour in the region.

The envoy also met with Assistant Secretary General of Syria's ruling al-Baath party Abdullah al-Ahmar during which the two sides discussed the ongoing events in the region, particularly in the Palestinian territories, Iraq, Lebanon and Darfur.

The two sides asserted the importance to adopt a unified Arab stance towards the current Arab issues, which requires conferring efforts among the Arab brothers in order to stop hostile plans from achieving their goals, SANA said.
