Britain has pledged 8 million U. S. dollars to support Nepal's fragile peace process.
The visiting International Development Minister for Asian Affairs Shahid Malik extended the assistance during his meeting with Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Wednesday morning.
After the meeting, Koirala's foreign affairs advisor Suresh Raj Chalise said the pledged amount will be mobilized through the Peace Fund set up by the government to support the peace process.
According to the advisor, Malik had dubbed the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) move to quit the eight-party government as " unfortunate" and hoped that the political parties would soon reach a new agreement in a few days.
Malik said that he was disappointed by the Maoists' move.
Malik was of the opinion that if the Constituent Assembly elections scheduled for Nov. 22 are not held, then the political parties would not only lose the faith of Nepalese citizens but also of the international communities.
"Such a condition would be tragic for Nepal," Malik said.
