Over 75 pct of child deaths in Vietnam due to injury

Over 75 percent of fatalities among children in Vietnam are due to injury, according to local newspaper Labor on Wednesday.

Drowning, traffic accidents, and burns are main causes of death in children. Most of fatal cases among children at the age of 15- 19 are because of injuries in traffic accidents, and among those under five years old are due to drowning.

Vietnam is implementing an action program for injury prevention from now to 2010, which involves enhancing public awareness, establishing a nationwide injury surveillance system, improving first-aid systems and trauma care and functional rehabilitation, enhancing the injury prevention capacity for health staff, and implementing safety community models throughout the country.
