An American soldier was killed by small arms fire during combat operations in southern Baghdad on Tuesday, the U.S. military said in a statement on Wednesday.
The unit of the killed soldier was conducting operations in southern Baghdad to combat the al-Qaida fighters in Iraq to reduce the threat of roadside bomb along the main routes, the statement said.
Earlier, the military said that four of its soldiers were killed and three others injured in an explosion and a vehicle accident in Iraq on Tuesday.
Three American soldiers were killed and three more injured in an explosion in Iraq's Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, the military said.
Another soldier also died Tuesday in a vehicle accident in the northern Ninevah province, according to the military.
The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to more than 3,785 since the outbreak of the Iraqi war in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
