Nepali election commissioners Wednesday voiced concern over the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) decision to quit the government and thwart the Constituent Assembly (CA) election slated for Nov. 22, reported the local media's website ekantipur.com.
Speaking at a regional conference of election officers for election management and implementation, election commissioner Nil Kantha Upreti said that the elections without the CPN-M participation will not give an outlet to the crises dogging the country.
"The agitation would affect the preparations for the elections, " he said.
Election Commissioner Usha Nepal said that the EC can still hold the elections based on fully proportional electoral system if the parties reach an agreement to this effect.
The commissioners said the Commission has taken the latest political development ahead of the elections seriously.
Chief election officers and election source persons are attending the two-day long regional conferences.
The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) on Tuesday pulled out of the government and announced a nationwide stir to foil the CA election.
