U.S. and Iraqi troops raided a building in the Shiite slum of Sadr City in eastern Baghdad on Thursday, killing a civilian and wounding seven others, a well-informed police source said.

Backed by helicopters, the joint raid operation started after 3: 00 a.m. has killed on civilian and wounded seven others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

He added that eight more people were arrested during the operation.

The U.S. military had no immediately comment on the incident.

Sadr City neighborhood is a stronghold for Mahdi Army, a militia loyal to radical Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr who declared recently a freeze of armed activities for six months.
