The District Administration Office has imposed indefinite curfew in Lamahi bazaar in Dang district, situated some 280 km southwest of the Nepali capital city Kathmandu, from 4 p.m. (1015 GMT) Thursday.

According to local media houses' website THT online, the curfew was clamped to avert further violence after an angry mob vandalized a few houses, shops and vehicles during a demonstration organized to protest mass killings in adjacent Kapilvastu District, the local administration said.

Police fired a few rounds of tear gas shells and a few shots in the air to control the angry mob. The situation in Lamahi is tense. No vehicles were plying on Chandrauta -Lamahi section of the highway since Thursday morning. Traffic on Lamahi-Ghorahi section has also come to a standstill.

The violence erupted in Kapilvastu district, some 200 km west of Kathmandu, after the killing of Democratic Madhesi Mukti Morcha Chairman Mohit Khan on Sunday.

At least 31 people have been confirmed killed in the Kapilvastu violence so far.

On Thursday morning, police recovered eight more bodies which were burnt and disfigured beyond recognition.
