U.S. President George W. Bush said Thursday he was saddened by the loss of life in the incident involving U.S. security firm Blackwater in Iraq.

"Obviously to the extent innocent life was lost, I'm saddened. Our objective is to protect innocent life," Bush said at a White House press conference.

"I want to find out the facts about exactly what took place there," Bush said.

The Iraqi government ordered Blackwater on Monday to stop work in Iraq and leave the country after the fatal shootout that killed eight Iraqi civilians and wounded 13 others.

Blackwater has been a security firm that protects U.S. diplomats.
