A commander of the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombian (FARC) was extradited to the United States on Thursday, Colombian officials said.

Erminso "Mincho" Cabrera was placed under the custody of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA early Thursday at Bogota's Catam military base.

He was the commander of FARC's 14th Front and finance chief and was captured in December, 2004 in central Colombia.

Washington accuses Cabrera of having sent 10,000 kg of cocaine to different countries each month.

Cabrera is under investigation for trafficking weapons for the FARC and owning properties used for processing cocaine.

He is the third FARC member to be extradited to the United States.

Other two FARC members known as "Sonia" and "Simon Trinidad" remain imprisoned in the United States on drug trafficking charges.

The FARC expects to recover the three arrested members in an eventual exchange for hostages it has kidnapped.
