UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday urged Iran to fully comply with the work plan it had reached with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
During his meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is attending the general debate of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly, Ban urged Iran to fully comply with the work plan and to contribute to the implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, according to a readout released by the spokesman's office.
Iran and the IAEA agreed on Aug. 21 on a working plan to clarify outstanding ambiguities over Tehran's nuclear program. However, some Western countries, including the United States, considered it as Iran's fresh trick to delay UN sanctions.
At the meeting, the UN chief acknowledged Iran's engagement in favor of peace and security in Afghanistan, and expressed his intention to visit Tehran at the earliest opportune moment at the invitation of Ahmadinejad.
