Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala met with a visiting delegation of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) at his official residence in capital Kathmandu on Tuesday.

At the invitation of the Interim Parliament of Nepal, the CPPCC delegation headed by CPPCC National Committee Vice-Chairman Wang Zhongyu arrived in Kathmandu on Monday afternoon.

Wang conveyed greetings from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Koirala, while Koirala expressed his gratitude and extended his best wishes to Premier Wen and other Chinese leaders.

After introducing the economic and social development in China and its Tibet Autonomous Region which borders Nepal in the north, Wang Zhongyu spoke highly of Nepal's support for China's policies on Tibet and Taiwan.

"China supports efforts made by Nepali people to protect and preserve the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, wishes Nepal could realize peace, social reconciliation and harmony, and achieve stability, development and prosperity," Wang said during the meeting.

Koirala assured the Chinese delegation of Nepal's adherence to the "one China" policy.

"The 'one country, two systems' policy is good and is applicable and appropriate to the Taiwan issue," Koirala said.

"Our ears may cheat us, but our eyes will not," Koirala said when talking about the Tibet issue. "Some Westerners once told me how underdeveloped the Tibet Autonomous Region was some years ago, but after visiting there I told them and everyone who has never visited Tibet this. Because I have found out the truth, their comments are groundless," Koirala said.

Wang Zhongyu also met with Speaker Subash Chandra Nemwang of the Nepali Interim Parliament on Tuesday morning, discussing bilateral relations and matters of common interest.
