Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan and his Bulgarian counterpart Veselin Bliznakov held talks Tuesday in Beijing, agreeing to promote bilateral military ties.

"The Chinese armed forces are ready to develop the friendly and cooperative ties with the Bulgarian armed forces and make contributions to promoting the friendly cooperation between the two countries," said Cao, who is also vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission and a State Councilor.

Hailing the traditional friendship between China and Bulgaria, Cao said the bilateral ties have developed well, with frequent exchanges of high-level visits and cooperation in various fields further expanded.

Cao also briefed Bliznakov on the joint anti-terrorism drill held by Shanghai Cooperation Organization members in August and China's stance on Taiwan issue.

Bliznakov spoke highly of the constructive role China played in safeguarding regional and global peace and security.

He said Bulgaria values China as a key partner in Asia, hoping the two armed forces could strengthen cooperation. He reaffirmed Bulgaria's adherence to the one-China policy.
