Russia hopes that the forthcoming inter-Korean summit meeting will create a better climate for resolving the nuclear problem on the Korean Peninsula, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov said on Tuesday.
"A great deal will depend on the relationship between the two Korean states. The better these relations, the more active the dialog between them, the lesser the threats -- real or ostensible -- that force the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to have a nuclear program of its own," Losyukov was quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency as saying.
Later on Tuesday Losyukov is leaving for Beijing for another round of six-party talks. The negotiations by the DPRK, South Korea, Russia, China, the United States and Japan are due to begin in Beijing on September 27.
The second inter-Korean summit is to begin on October 2 in Pyongyang.
