Vietnam is likely to increase the monthly amount of food, foodstuffs, clothes and medicines for prisoners, local newspaper Pioneer reported Wednesday.
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly, Vietnam's top legislature, Tuesday discussed a draft amended ordinance on imprisonment execution, and many members of the committee said the country should improve material life of prisoners.
Under a decree issued in 1993, each prisoner in Vietnam is to enjoy 15 kg of rice, 800 grams of fish and meat, two sets of clothes, two sets of underwear, and money valued at one kg of rice to treat common diseases each month.
These regulations are no longer suitable to new situations, the newspaper said.
