Vietnam is likely to refuse extraditing its citizens, or people accused of crimes in case the date for them being held criminally responsible expires or they have already served their punishments under the Vietnamese law, local newspaper Youth reported Wednesday.

Under a draft law on judicial assistance discussed by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, on Tuesday, people serving imprisonment sentences in Vietnam in other cases can be sent abroad to facilitate investigations of some criminal cases.

The law is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly at its session in late October.
