Former Mexican President Vicente Fox on Tuesday denied allegations that he amassed illegal wealth during his presidency.
Fox said in a statement that the allegation was part of a smear campaign to discredit him.
Corruption allegations against Fox emerged as Mexican's magazine Quien showed photos of his luxury ranch house in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato.
The photos triggered speculation that Fox might have gathered illegal wealth during his presidency. Otherwise he could hardly afford such luxury.
On Monday, Mexico's lower house approved of setting up a committee to investigate the case.
Fox promised to cooperate with the committee, saying he bought the ranch before he was elected and all his income was legal.
The businessman-turned politician had served as a congressman and state governor before he was elected president in July 2000.
